I am of course talking about "Devilman" by GoNagai. I had watched the live action remake for our Halloween report so I'm sorry for posting this so late. :P
The movie takes on the entire Devilman story from beginning to end with the exception of Devilman fighting Amon. Yeah, that was a brutal fight and I'm sad not to see them re-enact it especially since the fights scenes were so awesomely made. In my opinion there weren't enough Demon-Mode fights. Half of the time Akira is in Hybrid-Mode to fight lesser demons and will only go full demon for brief fights lasting maybe half a minute on screen.
Unfortunately this was all I really cared for in the film. Now I know Evil Yoda disagrees with me, but I did not find this film all that entertaining. Personally I wanted to see more demons just going at it. I understand that the director wanted to be more personal with the evil in humans and our hearts. The problem is when you take a gory and violent series like and Devilman and try to focus more on the philosophy of good and evil without the massive violence, then my excitement for the film just dwindles.
It's like what Ang Lee did to the Hulk in 2003. I enjoyed that film, but we can all agree that the Hulk just wasn't himself. That's how I feel with this Devilman film. Instead of "Hulk strongest there is" it's more like "Hulk's daddy never loved Hulk". Yeah, not as impressive.
